New Year Message from Chairwoman, Cllr Liz Dodson

Message from the Chairwoman, Cllr Liz Dodson

As we settle into 2025, it’s the perfect time to reflect on the incredible achievements and milestones we shared in 2024—a year that marked the 50th anniversary of our Parish Council. It has been a privilege to serve as your Chairwoman during such a momentous year, filled with celebrations, progress, and community spirit.

One of the highlights was our Heritage Weekend, where we honoured not only the rich history of the Parish Council but also the many remarkable organisations that make our village so vibrant. This event was a testament to our shared pride in Rainford’s past and the bright future we continue to build together.

We’ve worked hard to represent residents and address important local issues. Collaborating with both residents and Miller Homes, we ensured that planning application conditions were upheld, minimising disruption to our community. The fitting of a bleed control box in the village was another significant step in improving safety, with another planned installation at the North End Club in 2025.

In 2024, we celebrated the successful demolition of some of the garages on Pilkington Street and the installation of a Heritage Memorial, which pays tribute to those lost to industrial accidents in Rainford. These achievements reflect our commitment to preserving and respecting our local heritage while continuing to improve our village for future generations.

We are particularly proud to have supported the continuation of the much-loved Read and Rhyme sessions. When these could no longer take place in the library, we ensured they had a home in the village hall, where they continue to thrive. The village hall itself saw significant improvements last year, including window replacements, restoration of the beautiful flooring in the main hall, and even tackling an unexpected challenge—a honeybee infestation!

Our collaboration with United Utilities brought progress in addressing flooding issues on the Linear Park, an ongoing project that remains a priority.

Rainford’s community spirit shone brightly during events like the Beer Festival and the Christmas Fayre, both of which were hugely successful thanks to the efforts of dedicated volunteers, local businesses, and supporters. A special mention goes to our Youth Council, whose two fundraising events raised vital funds for their schools and local charities—a fantastic example of the next generation’s commitment to giving back.

I must also give a mention to my chosen charity, St Helens Young Carers, who do wonderful work supporting young people in our community who have caring responsibilities. They help these incredible individuals to have time to simply be young, while also providing vital respite where needed. Their dedication is truly inspiring, and I encourage everyone to learn more about and support their important work. My final Fundraising  as Chairwoman takes place on Saturday 8th March. Rainford Band will be performing a special Chairwoman’s Concert with proceeds going to St Helen’s Young Carers. Please support this community event and purchase tickets by emailing admin@rainfordparishcouncil.gov.uk.

As I reflect on 2024, I am filled with pride at what we have achieved together. None of this would have been possible without the incredible dedication, teamwork, and passion of our residents, volunteers, and community partners.

Thank you for your continued support.

Here’s to a bright and successful 2025 for all of us in Rainford!
